The Story of 38 Bands
by Katie Heffring
Beyond many stars, in a young galaxy, far far away, a cold and lonely planet orbited the ruby suns. On this planet, full of the pink mountaintops and shearwater lakes, stood three crystal castles. In the castles, lived a very beautiful queen and a fleet of foxes. The animal collective treated the queen like a treasure because she was the last of her kind.
With magic, they put her in a deep wintersleep, and placed her in a machine with five diamond rings, and a woven hand.
Then one day, a foreign spaceship crashed on this cold lonely planet. The ship opened and a man, socalled ‘The Tallest Man on Earth’, walked out with five wolves behind him. Their ship was beyond repair. Thus, they needed to find the necessities to survive.
The man and the wolf parade decided first to find a warm den.
Once they found shelter, the man built an arcade of fire for warmth. Then, the band set out to find food and water. In the mountains, the wolves found plenty of white rabbits to eat. They ate and ate until their bellies were full, and then continued in search of water. That is when the walkmen noticed the three crystal castles.
“I must go there,” he said, but the wolves had black feelings about this.
“Come now! It’s for survival! Think about life!” So the silent league continued. Along the way, they met many weird and colourful plants and animals. A band of horses told them the fastest way to the castles.
“Swim across the lakes,” one beast smiled, “then, you must knock thrice on the doors of each castle.”
Having lived near the lakes of Canada, the man and his wolves swam with little effort. They quickly reached the castles and knocked on every door.
“This is Adam from the Land of Talk,” said a wolf, “We are wolves and we are peaceful.”
“Liars!” A fox yelled, and the fleet came charging.
A battle began. But the foxes had little chance.
Through the broken social scene, Adam saw a winding staircase. Soon he reached the top and soon he found the sleeping lady.
“Wolves!” Adam cried as he opened the machine. He tried to wake the lady, but to no avail. When he noticed the six strange clues, the wolves came to his side unscathed. Adam put on the woven hand. The glove fit perfectly. The five wolves slipped on the five diamond rings. They all fit easily.
Immediately, the sleeping lady awoke with a little scream.
“Be calm, my lady,” he soothed her.
“Are you Adam and the Amethysts?” She asked.
Adam felt a rush of strange familiarity, “Are you…Florence?”
“Yes,” She smiled, weakly reaching for his hands, “Florence and the machine.”
At that moment, Adam took his beautiful sick friend into his arms and held her close to his heart. As he gently stroked her braids, she softly whispered, “P.S. I love you.”

Love it.
